Road Rage turns into Assault by Pointing a Gun Arrest

On May 19, 2024 at 1:27 p.m., Morganton Public Safety Officers responded to the area of I-40 at Exit 105 to investigate a report of an individual pointing a gun at vehicles on I-40.  Officers arrived and located Michael Jones of Athens Georgia,  in the SONIC Parking Lot that matched the suspect description.  Through investigation, Officers discovered that Jones was involved in some road rage that started on Hwy 64 and continued down I-40 before coming to a rest at SONIC.  During the road rage, Jones allegedly pointed a gun at two victims.  During the investigation Officers located a hand gun behind the bushes at SONIC.  The gun was collected and Jones was arrested and charged with two counts of Assault by Pointing a Gun.  Jones received a $5,000.00 Secure Bond and a court date of June 6th 2024.
